A Note from Ms. Rached

Oh my goodness, it is already the last full week of school! And what a year it has been! We are still going strong with parent engagement opportunities and inclusive programming.

Next week, we are fully scheduled with music and media shares. The schedule was shared on Monday via Remind, and the dates and times are also available at ps154.org/events. We are excited to see you there! Please note that Kindergarten and 5th grade do not have music/media arts shares as Kindergarten will be performing the songs they worked on with Mr. Fitz at the Stepping-Up on Thursday, and 5th grade will be performing their Ballroom dances at the recital on June 20.

June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ pioneers who fought for equality through art, culture, civic action, community service, and more, and to celebrate the rich and diverse history of the LGBTQ+ community. On Friday, June 21, we will be having a Pride March around the block at 2:30, right before dismissal. We will also be having a Pride Spirit Day on that day - students can wear rainbow or Pride-themed clothing if they want. DOE Pride Month resources can be found here.

Next Wednesday, June 19, school will be closed to commemorate Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a holiday to celebrate and commemorate the end of slavery in America - it marks the time that enslaved people in Texas were liberated, over two months after the end of the Civil War. Across the school, students will be learning about the meaning of this important holiday. DOE resources about Juneteenth, can be found here.

Next Monday, June 17, school will be closed for the Muslim holiday Eid Al-Adha. We wish Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!

πŸ“š Book Market - Call for Graphic Novels & Chapter Books! πŸ“š πŸ“’ πŸ“•

We are accepting graphic novel and chapter book donations (for all ages). Please bring your gently used books and drop them into the blue bins labeled β€œBook Market Donation Bins” on the stage in the MMR.

Do not donate other book types for the time being - other book genres will be donated externally immediately as we do not have capacity to take them.

Feel free to send back any graphic novels or chapter books previously sourced from the Book Market as well (if your child is ready to part with them!).
