A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear P.S. 154 Families,

Thank you for a wonderful and well-attended first round of family morning! Students and teachers alike enjoyed sharing our corn husk doll project with families and spending some time together in the classrooms. Mr. Buckley did a great job preparing students by sharing a presentation about Native American Heritage Month. His presentation is shared here.

Red Hawk Council will be coming to school for an assembly in honor of Native American Heritage Month on November 20th. This assembly is for students only and is not a family event. Thank you to the PTA for funding this event!

Progress reports will be going home on Thursday, November 21st, in your child’s backpack. IEP progress reports and NYC screener reports will come home with the progress report. If you have any questions about your child’s progress report please reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule an appointment during their weekly remote family engagement time. These progress reports will not have course marks, they will be narrative. Students will receive course marks for the second marking period in February. We will share more information about course marks and our grading policy before February.

A lice procedures message was shared with families on October 15th. Please be sure to follow the directions in this message if your child has lice. The most important step is notifying your child’s classroom teacher and Tanica via ParentSquare. By following these procedures, we can all do our part to keep lice cases in our community to a minimum.

Head Lice Procedures

Here are the procedures referenced in Principal Fitzgerald’s note.

If your child has a case of head lice:

1. Notify the Teachers and Tanica via Parentsquare.

2. Get the child treated.

3. Upon returning to school, please bring the child to the office to get checked and clear to go to class.

4. Child will be checked again in 14 days.

For more information, see the NYC DOE page about head lice.

Annual PS 154 Community Cares Fund Drive

Each year, the PTA raises funds for families within our PS 154 community who are struggling financially. Our aim is to help make the holiday season a little brighter and easier for our neighbors and friends. We are asking for families with a little extra to share to contribute to the PS 154 Community Cares Fund Drive.

Every donation will go directly to families, allowing them to purchase both winter essentials and holiday gifts for their kids. Your contribution isn’t just a gift; it’s a message that they are not alone and that their community stands with them.

Let’s show the strength of our PS 154 family by lifting each other up. The deadline to contribute is Monday, Nov 25th 2024.  Thank you in advance for opening your hearts and your wallets. Together, we can spread warmth, hope, and the true spirit of giving this holiday season.

DONATE TO COMMUNITY CARES DRIVE

While online donations are strongly preferred, we also welcome donations of cash or checks, which can be dropped off with Kelly Pearn in the main office on weekdays before 2 p.m. For checks, please make them payable to The PTA of PS 154, with “Community Cares” noted in the memo.

If you are a PS 154 family experiencing difficulties with basic needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out directly to Tanica. We are here to support each other, and you are not alone. This season, let’s come together to make sure every family in our community feels the warmth, care, and kindness that defines PS 154. Thank you for your generosity!
