A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear P.S. 154 Families,

What a successful launch to small groups this week! From classroom teachers, to support staff, to students, I have heard positive feedback and lots of excitement about how this time will support all community members in growing and learning. This first week focused on routines and establishing class agreements. Some of the agreements can be seen below. We look forward to seeing where this structure goes!

Family Mornings are back! Information was shared on Friday about our first round of Family Mornings. Please see this Parent Square post for more information. We look forward to celebrating Native American Heritage Month with all of you!

One more reminder that there is no school for students on November 1st, November 5th, November 7th or November 11th. November 7th is a professional development day for staff and then parent teacher conferences in the afternoon and evening. You should have received a post to sign up for your parent teacher conference meeting via ParentSquare on Thursday. Reach out to your classroom teacher if you have any questions or the times offered do not work for your family.

This message was shared on Friday via ParentSquare reviewing information shared during Curriculum Night. The letter details when and how you will receive feedback from your child’s teacher about their academic progress. Please be sure to read it in preparation for Parent Teacher Conferences.

District 15 has been selected to participate in a NYC Public Schools technology readiness activity on November 6th, 2024. A letter will be shared from the district with more details and your child’s teacher will share an asynchronous task via google classroom on that date for your child to complete.

PTA Annual Fund - we need your support!

We’re happy to report that the PTA Annual Fund raised over $12,574 in September! Thank you so much for your support - that is quite an impressive number, but we have a long way to go to hit our PTA Dues Annual Fund goal of $125,000.

Your PTA dues are necessary for PS 154 to operate in-school curriculum like Music, Media Arts, Chess, Author Visits, etc. - without it, the school only receives funding for core subjects.

This year, the PTA aims to raise ~$323,500 to fund this year’s enrichments and activities. We do this through fun seasonal events like 👻Boo Bash 🎃 - but these events only provide about 50% of our revenue - the other 50% is from the PTA annual fund, supported by your PTA dues.

We need a minimum of $400 per student this year in PTA dues.

That’s $40/month during the school year—some families can afford more than that, and some families can afford less or none at all; please donate what you can at ps154.org/donate. There are many ways to pay dues or get other family members to donate: one-time, recurring, and stock donations. Give how you can, and encourage your family members to donate to your child’s education, too!

Please help spread the word about how important it is to donate to the PTA, attend PTA events, and get involved in the operation of the PTA!

Community Corner - Park Slope Talent Show

There are so many talented kids in the area and just not enough stage time to go around.  As a result, a group of Park Slope Families are partnering with Camp Friendship (339 8th Street, Park Slope)  to host a talent show to provide an additional opportunity for kids to rock out with their band, play a solo, sing a song they wrote, sing any song, recite a poem they wrote, perform a short skit, juggle, etc., on Saturday, November 23 at 3:00 pm.

There is no participation fee, tryout, or judges.  We are asking each participant to bring an unwrapped gift for a child of their age and 2 items from Camp Friendship's Most Needed Pantry Items.   If you'd like to make a donation to Camp Friendship that would also be appreciated.  Here is a link to their donation page.
