A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear P.S. 154 Families,

Movie night was a hit! It was so fun to be in the school yard all together watching Kung Fu Panda 4.

Parent teacher conferences are around the corner! Parent teacher conferences will be held via zoom on November 7th. Teachers will share sign ups for 10 minute appointments with families via ParentSquare on Thursday October 24th. Afternoon conferences will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 and evening conferences will be held from 4:30- 7:30.

November 7th is a non attendance day for students. Teachers will be engaging in professional learning during the morning before conferences start.

Small group is starting this week! We are excited to announce that Asiaa and Katie will be joining our community as our small group support staff members. The first few weeks will be focused on building the routine of transitioning to small groups and engaging with students from other classes. Over time we look forward to building a program that centers creative play, while supporting the development of the content knowledge from the Wit and Wisdom modules of study.

Book Market Kicked off 10/21

PTA Annual Fund - we need your support!

We’re happy to report that the PTA Annual Fund raised over $12,574 in September! Thank you so much for your support - that is quite an impressive number, but we have a long way to go to hit our PTA Dues Annual Fund goal of $125,000.

Your PTA dues are necessary for PS 154 to operate in-school curriculum like Music, Media Arts, Chess, Author Visits, etc. - without it, the school only receives funding for core subjects.

This year, the PTA aims to raise ~$323,500 to fund this year’s enrichments and activities. We do this through fun seasonal events like the upcoming 👻Boo Bash 🎃 - but these events only provide about 50% of our revenue - the other 50% is from the PTA annual fund, supported by your PTA dues.

We need a minimum of $400 per student this year in PTA dues.

That’s $40/month during the school year - some families can afford more than that, and some families can afford less or none at all; please donate what you can: ps154.org/donate. There are many ways to pay dues or get other family members to donate; one time, recurring, and stock donations - give how you can, and encourage your family members to donate to you child’s education too!

Please help spread the word about how important it is to donate to the PTA, attend PTA events, and get involved in the operation of the PTA! If you’re passionate about Fundraising, come join to our Fundraising Committee meeting, 10/23 @ 6:30pm on Zoom.

D15 PTA Fun Run

The Office of Council Member Shahana Hanif and the President’s Council of District 15 are hosting the 16th Annual Fun Run on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Lefrak Center in Prospect Park (9 am bib pickup, 10 am race start).

The Brooklyn PTA Fun Run is a family-friendly event where Brooklyn PTAs and community members of all ages come together to run/bike/scoot/walk around Prospect Park loop road (approximately 3.3 miles). The goal of the Fun Run is to raise PTA funds for Brooklyn schools with Title I status in the last three years (i.e. 60% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch).

Every dollar raised by the PS 154 team will help grow the pot of funds for redistribution to Title I schools in Brooklyn. These flexible funds are critical for schools to be able to pay for services like recess staff, extracurriculars like gardening and musicals, and teacher grants. Let’s show the D15 community our solidarity by raising much needed funds for their PTAs and students. Join the PS 154 team and REGISTER HERE

Community Corner - Park Slope Talent Show

There are so many talented kids in the area and just not enough stage time to go around.  As a result, a group of Park Slope Families are partnering with Camp Friendship (339 8th Street, Park Slope)  to host a talent show to provide an additional opportunity for kids to rock out with their band, play a solo, sing a song they wrote, sing any song, recite a poem they wrote, perform a short skit, juggle, etc., on Saturday November 23 at 3:00 pm.

There is no participation fee, tryout, or judges.  We are asking each participant to bring an unwrapped gift for a child of their age and 2 items from Camp Friendship's Most Needed Pantry Items.   If you'd like to make a donation to Camp Friendship that would also be appreciated.  Here is a link to their donation page.
