Read-A-Thon

Read-a-thon

It’s going to be a great 2025, and what better way to start the year than with our annual Read-A-Thon, starting Monday, January 13th!

Students will work with their teachers and grown-ups to set reading goals, track progress, and celebrate their accomplishments. This year, it’s about TIME spent reading not # of books. So pledges will be against # of minutes of reading fun.

We will again use the website RallyUp to help each student fundraise and log minutes. Sign up here.

We have some great events planned to make the Read-A-Thon extra special, starting with a Read-In on Tuesday, January 14th, at 6 p.m. in the MMR

This year’s Read-A-Thon will include class prizes (hot chocolate party, anyone???) for participation, as well as grade-level lotteries for goal meet-ers, and a special prize for the top-earning class. We also have an exciting new incentive this year... SLIME!  If the school community meets the reading goal, Principal Kathryn Fitzgerald will be slimed this spring.  And if we meet our fundraising goal, the PTA President will also be slimed.  Sliming will happen in the Spring, when the weather is warmer.

Help make our BIGGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR a success!  Remember, each minute counts!  Your student’s goals are Unlimited. They can Defy all expectations.

A few key points:

  • Families can register their students for the Read-A-Thon using the link below to create their personal fundraising pages, which can be shared with family and friends.

ALL CLASSES WITH 90% OF THE CLASS REGISTERED BY JANUARY 22 WILL EARN AN IN-SCHOOL HOT-CHOCOLATE PARTY!

  • Help your students set their goals. They will read about 420 minutes in school during the Read-A-Thon. If your child loses their goal/tally sheet, the PDF is below.

  • Families should update their child’s reading progress on a daily or weekly basis for the duration of the Read-A-Thon.

  • Please read out to pta_info@ps154.org with any questions.

Join us at Noon on May 19th (nestled between the science fair and chess tournament), for a Generations Campaign Dessert Social Event.

  • Grants that allow teachers to purchase needed supplies

  • Recess coaches who encourage all of our students to get involved and stay active

  • All in-class enrichments, such as sessions of media arts and chess

HELP US GROW: JOIN THE GENERATIONS FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN AT PS 154

Calling all Tias, Nonnas, Grampies, Opas, Aunties, Zaydes, Chachas, Granddads and Mimis – PS 154 needs your help!

In April, the PTA will bring back our Generations fundraising campaign. Our goal is to help expand our “village” (and fundraising pie!) by inviting all those important people who love our kids to support our school. The best part? You don't even have to be the one to ask. Take two minutes to help us out by sharing email addresses for any extended family members or loved ones you think might be open to giving. They’ll receive a few messages explaining the important contributions our PTA makes to our school, along with gentle invitations to donate. They'll also be invited to a spring ice cream social to celebrate our 154 community.

Please send names and emails you would like to include to pta_info@ps154.org by April 1st.

Spring Auction & Raffle

It’s that time of year again! The PTA of PS 154’s highly anticipated Spring Auction & Raffle will run online from March 4-15, 2024.

We raise thousands of dollars for our school through the generosity of parents, local businesses and New York City institutions.  Donors receive publicity, a tax deduction, and the goodwill and gratitude of our parent community.

Restaurant gift certificates, store gift certificates, vacation rentals, backstage passes, private tours, sports tickets, memberships, birthday parties, camps, art, signed books, first edition LPs, exquisite jewelry, holiday gift items, designer goods, kids’ and baby wear — all make great contributions.

We need YOUR help to make this event great. Parents, are you willing to donate an item or experience for the online auction? Please fill out this short form to let us know. Ask a friend, too! Or please pass on a name or idea using the form and we can get in touch.

Local businesses that would like to donate are also welcome to complete the form or contact Alice Lincoln, Chair of Auctions & Sponsorships at alicelincoln@gmail.com.

As a reminder, every donation is also a tax-deductible gift to the PTA of PS 154 used to enhance our student experience with rewarding music, art, science and other programs.

PS 154 COMMUNITY CARES

The PTA is collaborating with our parent coordinator, Tanica Gordon, to raise funds for PS 154 families who are facing economic hardships. Through your generous donations, we can tangibly support our fellow families, ensuring they have adequate resources during the holiday season. Your donation will be converted into gift cards for families to buy the coats, hats, gloves, or supplies they need.

Your contribution will not only provide much-needed relief but also demonstrate the strength of our PS154 community. We thank you in advance for your generous donations. Together, we can create a nurturing environment where every member of our school community feels supported and cared for.

The deadline to contribute is Saturday, November 25th.

You can make online donations to the Community Cares Drive. While we prefer online donations, donations of cash/checks can be dropped off directly to Kelly Pearn in the main office on weekdays before 2 p.m. Checks should be made payable to The PTA of PS 154 (note on check: “Community Cares”).

If you are a PS 154 family that is struggling with providing basic needs for your family, please contact Tanica directly.
