A Note from Ms. Rached

It was wonderful to see so many families at our rescheduled December PTA meeting on Friday! The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of field trips and family mornings as we settle into 2024!

Thank you for supporting our Read-A-Thon fundraiser! Every year, we love to see students challenge themselves to read during our Read-A-Thon. Setting goals for yourself and tracking your progress is such an important life skill. The year, we are β€œall-in” in classroom, with charts and posters to track progress and teachers have been getting in on the excitement and fun in their classrooms! We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the rest of our family mornings this week - we’ll be having our β€œall-in” classroom Read-Ins to kick off our Read-A-Thon! Check out the dates and times below:

  • Wednesday Jan 10 (8:35-9:05AM): Grade 5

  • Thursday Jan 11 (8:35-9:05AM): Grade 3

  • Friday Jan 12 (8:35-9:05AM): Grade 2

πŸŽ‰ School Photo Order Fundraiser! πŸŽ‰

We are thrilled to announce that thanks to your incredible support, we have reached our order target with a fantastic 55% participation, totaling 240 orders! πŸ™Œ As a result, our school will receive at least $2,700 in fundraising proceeds.

Your participation has made a significant impact on our school community, and we couldn't be more grateful.  We hope you enjoyed the adorable pictures capturing the joy and spirit of your children.

Thank you for being an essential part of our success and helping us continue providing enriching experiences for our students.

Kindergarten Open House Tours

We are excited to announce that we are hosting Kindergarten Open House Tours in January!  If you know any families who might be interested in joining our community, please encourage them to sign up for the tour. This is a great chance for prospective families to explore our classrooms, meet our dedicated teachers, and discover what makes PS154 a special place for learning and growth.

Spring Auction and Gala β€” Donations and Volunteers Needed!

It’s only January, but March is right around the corner β€” and we are starting to plan the Spring Auction and Gala, one of our biggest fundraisers of the year! Can you help?

We need donations! Are you willing to donate an item or experience for a silent auction? Please fill out this short form to let us know. Examples include a gift card to a local business, tickets to a game or show, or a stay in your vacation home β€” just to name a few. Ask a friend, too! Or please pass on a name or idea using the form above and we can get in touch.

We also need volunteers! No matter how much or how little time you have, there’s a role for you. We need people to:

  • Contact prior business/parent donors

  • Identify and/or reach out to potential new business donors by email or by walking around and speaking with (friendly!) neighborhood businesses.

  • Help with communications

  • Plan the gala

Please fill out this short form to let us know you’re willing to volunteer or email Auctions & Sponsorships Chair Alice Lincoln (alicelincoln@gmail.com).

Upcoming Events

Read-A-Thon! January 8-29

Read-A-Thon is underway! Make sure to register on the RallyUp website by Wednesday, January 17th and log at least one book for your child. All classes with 90% of students registered by that date will win a Hot Chocolate party for their class. Best practice is to add books in as you go / at least once a week.

Please send your link to your friends and family! Every donation counts (no matter the size) and helps the kids know their extended community is supporting them!

If you need help setting a goal, here are sample goals for each reading level. For K and 1, books your parents read to you count too!

See the READ-A-THON Website for more information.

πŸŽ‰ Spirit Day: Celebrate the 100th Day of School! πŸŽ‰

Get ready for a day brimming with excitement as we come together to celebrate the 100th day of school! On February 9th, our students are encouraged to participate in the spirit by choosing from the following options:

  1. Wear clothing with 100 items: Unleash your creativity by donning outfits adorned with 100 small items. Whether you let your imagination run wild or seek inspiration from Pinterest or Google, let's make this celebration uniquely yours!

  2. Wear your school shirt: Display your school pride proudly by wearing one of your PS154 school shirts. Let's unite as a school community as we mark this memorable day together.

Let's make the 100th day of school a memorable and spirited celebration together!

🏫 School Store - Here to help

Can't locate your child's school shirt? No worries! Check out the stylish t-shirt options available at our school store. Submit your order by Tuesday, January 30th, to have your child's shirt in hand before the 100th Day of School. Remember, purchasing school shirts supports our school.

Book Market - Call for Graphic Novels & Chapter Books! πŸ“š πŸ“’ πŸ“•

We continue to be in need of graphic novel and chapter book donations (for all ages). Please bring your gently used books and drop them into the blue bins labeled β€œBook Market Donation Bins” on the stage in the MMR. Please do not put them in the clear bins by Ms. Guzzi’s office - those are only for books that have been sorted and stickered.

Feel free to send back any graphic novels or chapter books previously sourced from the Book Market as well (if your child is ready to part with them!).

We're delighted to share that the fifth graders have voted and the winner of the t-shirt design competition is Penny R. from Class 5-306! Congratulations, Penny! The class shirts will be  ordered and distributed to all 5th graders later in the year, and will be available on the school store for all other students and families!

But the excitement doesn't end there! Later this month, we'll open up the opportunity for ALL PS 154 families to pre-order this unique, student-designed shirt. Stay tuned for more details on how to secure your one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art in the coming weeks.
