A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear Families,

What an exciting week we had last week! Our students truly shined during Silly Hair Day, showing off their creativity and fun spirit. Thank you to everyone who participated in this lighthearted event!

We are also thrilled to celebrate the incredible achievement of 12 students who participated in the District 15 Debate Tournament this week. A huge congratulations to the 6 students who placed, and an extra special shout-out to our school for taking both 1st and 2nd place! A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Buckley for his dedication and hard work, and to all the parents who supported our debaters along the way.

Next week is AP Appreciation Week, and we want to take a moment to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Buckley for all of his efforts. His hard work and commitment to our students do not go unnoticed, and we are lucky to have him at PS 154.

We were also honored to have Daphne Helvira Arthur, a talented local artist, visit us on Thursday. Daphne shared her beautiful work with students in grades K-5, inspiring creativity and art appreciation throughout the school. Photos of this wonderful visit are shared below!

Looking ahead, our next Spirit Day is Throwback Thursday – we can't wait to see everyone dressed in their favorite decade-inspired outfits!

Lastly, we still do not have any updates regarding the class size bill funding application, but rest assured, we will keep our SLT, staff, and families informed as soon as we hear anything.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week ahead!

Warmly,

Kathryn

Square 1 Art - Buy your kid's art!

This year the PTA and PS 154 are partnering with Square 1 Art to sell your kid's art! Sales officially start on April 3rd, but if you want a sneak peek:

...And you'll be able to shop all of the merch you can buy with your kid's art on it! This is great for Mother's Day, Father's Day, any upcoming family birthday gifts, or just to have your kid’s art around the house. Plus, it's a fundraiser too - the PTA gets a percentage of the profits, and we get more profit the more you buy.

SUPPORT THE PS 154 ANNUAL FUND TODAY

We’re making great progress—$66,628 raised so far! But we need $53,372 more to keep the programs that make PS 154 so special, like Music, Media Arts, Chess, and recess coaching.

If you’ve been meaning to contribute, now’s the time! The suggested dues are $400 per child, but any amount helps. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to the finish line.

Double Your Impact with a Matching Gift!

We’re seeking matching donors to help us close the gap. If you or someone you know can match donations, please email pta_info@ps154.org. Let’s make PS 154 stronger than ever—together!

CONTRIBUTE TODAY AND SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL!

PTA & SLT board: Upcoming Elections

At the PTA’s April general meeting Wednesday, April 30 @ 6:30pm), we will be holding nominations for the entire executive board and SLT parent positions.

We need you! Yes, you! Please take a moment to consider running for a role in the PTA. Without all the organization and planning by our board members and committees, these events and other valuable school programs would not be possible. Please add your voice and talents to our amazing team!

We'd love to answer your questions and help you figure out which role is best for you. These roles do not need to be a huge time commitment; many of us in parent leadership are full-time working parents, parents of multiple kids, or both! No experience is necessary. If you have questions, please feel free to reach out  at pta_info@ps154.org

More information on each role and what it requires can be found in our PTA of PS154 bylaws or HERE.

Book Market Update

The book market IS NOT accepting picture books. Please DO NOT send in picture books as we do not have the volunteer capacity to sort through them. Instead, we are especially in need of chapter books (all levels), graphic novels, and non-fiction (specifically I Survived series and Who Would Win series). As a reminder, we only accept books in great condition, and we do not accept board books, religious books, or workbooks. Please bring book donations to the MMR and leave the bag by the bins on the stage. Thank you, and happy reading!

D39 Participatory Budgeting, Saturday, March 29th - Sunday, April 6th

Make your voice heard and vote in Participatory Budgeting from Saturday, March 29th - Sunday, April 6th! If you live in or have a special connection (go to school, work, etc) in City Council District 39, you can vote on how to spend $1.5 million on projects to improve our community. Everyone age 11 and older can vote, regardless of citizenship or voter registration status. Projects have been proposed by community members to respond to important needs in our neighborhoods. This year there are proposals addressing local educational, economic justice, arts & culture, and environmental issues. Participatory Budgeting gives people a real say in how real money is spent! Vote on the digital ballot at vote.pbnyc.org or vote in person.

Come to the PB Expo on Sunday, 4/6, at Powerhouse House Arts from 2 to 4 PM to learn about the projects from volunteers. You can also see details and the full in-person voting schedule on the website and read about the projects on the ballot in our project zine.
