A Note from Principal Fitzgerald

Dear P.S. 154 Families,

It was so wonderful seeing so many of you in the school building for curriculum night. Remember that if you were unable to attend curriculum night for any reason you should reach out to your child's teacher and schedule a remote parent engagement session so they can share the necessary information with you.

We are excited to announce that we will launch our new communication platform, ParentSquare, today! Parents should look out for an email with a link to activate their accounts. Teachers will post the slides they shared at curriculum night on ParentSquare for those who want to reference or review them. A video all about ParentSquare for families can be found here.

We are excited to begin celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with students next week. If you would like to come into school and share some of your family traditions with your child's class please reach out to your child's teacher.

Families, please note that Thursday, November 7th and Thursday, March 6th are full non-attendance days for students. This is the result of local UFT union decisions to increase the amount of professional learning time in this year's calendar. We understand that this decision impacts families childcare needs and the PTA is working to explore community options and is reaching out to other D15 schools who also selected to make these dates non-attendance days. Students should not come to school on these days.

First General PTA Meeting of the Year - Friday, September 27th at 8:30am in the MMR

We'll bring the coffee; you bring your ideas.  Join us after drop off to start the year off together.  We will have a budget vote, including a new line item to help support our students with an additional flexible teacher to reduce class ratios during targeted instructional hours.

It's also election time once again!  Take a more active role and join this year’s PTA of PS 154 Board! We are the group that organizes and executes all fundraising and community activities for PS 154. Every year the PTA aims to be more impactful than the last.

Elections will take place in person at our first PTA General Meeting: September 27, 2024, 8:30am, PS 154 MMR.  More information on each role and what it requires can be found in the PTA of PS154 bylaws. These roles do not need to be a huge time commitment; many of us in parent leadership are full-time working parents, parents of multiple kids, or both! No experience is necessary—and we encourage diverse candidates.

Anyone can nominate anyone else at the meeting, including themselves! We have 4 Member-at-Large Spots for new parents at the school as well as President-Elect, Chair of Fundraising Events and School Store Manager.  We also have one open 2-year term for the School Leadership Team.  If you can’t make it to the meeting, nominations can also be received online via: pta_info@ps154.org.

In Class Fall Enrichment Schedule and Information

Through the support of our parents contributing funding, the PTA is able to provide the following in-class enrichments during the Fall/Winter Trimester:

These enrichment courses will run for approximately 13 weeks, starting the week of September 16th.  Click here to read more about the courses.
