A Note from Ms. Rached

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring break, and had the chance to spend time with your families, whether you were traveling or staycationing.

Science Week

We have so many amazing Science Fair projects happening, and we sent home display boards with almost 30 students today! If your child wants to participate in the science fair, but you missed the deadline to send in the google form, you can just email me with your child’s idea by the end of the week, and we’ll get you set with a board.

On the subject of Science Week, if you or anyone in your circles is a STEM professional, please consider signing up to participate in our STEM Career Day!

You can find all of the info about STEM Career Day, the Science Fair, and the Egg Drop at our Science Week page.

Jewish-American Heritage Month

In honor of Jewish-American Heritage month, we will be publishing a single-issue newspaper featuring notable and prominent Jewish-Americans. Students are encouraged to participate by submitting artwork. See flyer here for details.

Parent Teacher Conferences

This Thursday, May 9, we will be holding evening Parent-Teacher conferences. Teachers will be reaching out to families that they would like schedule meetings with, and we are prioritizing our students who we have academic or social-emotional concerns about. This will be a normal school day, with regular dismissal and afterschool.

School Staff Appreciation

A huge thank you to Stefanie Schiada, Felicia Schementi, and Sarah Gartenberg for spearheading our School Staff Appreciation week! As a part of the treats that have been organized, we have a staff breakfast on Friday, so we the school yard will be closed during arrival time (it will open for line-up at 8:15). The cafeteria will be open for Kindergarten arrival and for students in grades 1-5 to come in early.

We are thrilled that this year, our teacher-experience raffle aligns with School-Staff Appreciation week!

Maybe whoever is Principal for the Day can help me to write my newsletter message!

2024-2025 PTA & SLT Nominations & Elections

Nominations Flyer

Take a more active role and join next year’s PTA of PS 154 Board! We are the group that organizes and executes all fundraising and community activities for PS 154. Every year the PTA aims to be more impactful that the last, and no doubt this upcoming board lead by President Elect Sarah Gartenberg will accomplish that and more.

Nominations will take place in person at this Friday’s PTA General Meeting: May 10, 2024, 8:45am, PS 154 MMR.  More information on each role and what it requires can be found in our PTA of PS154 bylaws. These roles do not need to be a huge time commitment; many of us in parent leadership are full-time working parents, parents of multiple kids, or both! No experience is necessary—and we encourage diverse candidates.

Anyone can nominate anyone else at the meeting, including themselves! There are also 4 spots on the School Leadership Team (SLT) open for nominations.  If you can’t make it to the meeting, nominations can also be received online.  Elections will follow on May 29th at 6:30pm on Zoom.

Submit your nominations today!

Chess Tournament - May 19, 1-5pm

The Chess Tournament is open to all students in grades K-5.  For more information, check out our events page and register by May 17th. And please volunteer to help during the tournament.

Register by May 17th, and volunteer!

🏃 Field Day Details - May 13-20

During each grade’s field day, there will be field day PE activities in the morning, and then a picnic lunch at the Peninsula in Prospect Park after. A sign-up has been shared for families to volunteer in the morning, and all families are invited to join the classes in the park for the picnic! On your child's designated field day, they should wear either the classic gold school t-shirt or their gold Class of 2024 shirt. Field Day information, including student groups and volunteer sign-ups,  has been sent to families through Remind. Please reach out to Ms. Donato with any questions.

Save time, money, and stress! Order your school supplies through EduKit before June 30th and they will be delivered directly to school and set up in your child’s classroom before classes begin in September! How easy is that? Plus, a portion of sales benefits PTA programming. At checkout you have the option to add an extra donation to help buy kits for students in need. Check “buy school supplies” off your summer to do list today!

Help Us Grow: Join the Generations Fundraising Campaign at PS 154

Calling all Tias, Nonnas, Grampies, Opas, Aunties, Zaydes, Chachas, Granddads and Mimis – PS 154 needs your help! In April, the PTA will bring back our Generations fundraising campaign. Our goal is to help expand our “village” (and fundraising pie!) by inviting all those important people who love our kids to support our school. The best part? You don't even have to be the one to ask.

At Noon on Sunday, May 19th (nestled between the science fair and chess tournament), your child’s extended family members—from grandparents and cousins to aunts and uncles and close family friends—are invited to a Dessert Reception at PS 154, a chance for the kids to show their loved ones what they create and where they spend their days.

If you think your extended family would like to hear more about what’s going on at PS154 or where their important donations go, please fill out this form.

📚 Book Market - Call for Graphic Novels & Chapter Books! 📚 📢 📕

We are accepting graphic novel and chapter book donations (for all ages). Please bring your gently used books and drop them into the blue bins labeled “Book Market Donation Bins” on the stage in the MMR.

Do not donate other book types for the time being - other book genres will be donated externally immediately as we do not have capacity to take them.

Feel free to send back any graphic novels or chapter books previously sourced from the Book Market as well (if your child is ready to part with them!).
