The Brooklyn Museum partnership serves PS154 students in grades 3-5. The program integrates class curriculum into multiple Museum visits. Third grade studied African masks this year, which serendipitously occurred during Disguise, a special exhibition on contemporary African masks. Fourth grade came to visit the Museum’s Schenck Houses to deepen their understanding of the Dutch Colonial era, and later visited Gilbert Stuart’s famous portrait of George Washington to discuss the American Revolution. Fifth grade studied Persuasion in Art, looking at a range of different artworks throughout the collection to employ this ELA skill. Each grade worked with an educator to adapt Museum visits to their curriculum, with 5th grade attending a planning meeting at the Museum to more specifically map out lessons. We look forward to continuing this partnership as we head into the new school year!
