The Annual Boo Bash is Saturday, October 17th!

boo bash jpgIf you haven’t heard, Boo Bash will be taking place on Saturday October 17th from 5-8pm. This is an awesome event that is highly attended and super fun for the kids. This year, we will have a dance party (with glow sticks and LED goodies for sale), crafts, lots of food, a witches den, face painting, cotton candy, and more. This craziness can only be pulled off if we have help from all of our amazing PS 154 families! We have a variety of ways that you can help–from volunteering to decorating the school to working the ticket sales table to making cotton candy and donating boo-tiful baked goods that we can sell. Please sign up for a shift through this link:

If you are coming for set up and have to bring well-behaved kids, that’s totally fine. We will take all the help we can get! And we staggered the event shifts so that you can still take your kids around Boo Bash.

Music with Mrs. Gabel!

music classMusic classes at PS 154 are starting this week. Our PS 154 Music Program is 100% PTA funded. Our fantastic Mrs. Christine Gabel combines her vast experience as a musician with a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education to bring our children a complete K-5 music education experience.

Grades K-2 will focus on the basic foundation of music through singing, rhythm, and movement. Upper grades will delve deeper in their music experience by learning recorder (3rd) and Ukulele (4th, 5th). Upper grades students will also continue to improve their tonal and rhythm skills with singing in parts as a chorus, and movement activities. Mrs. Gabel uses traditional, folk, pop, and musical theatre songs to make music learning fun and engaging.

This week, ask your child to share a song or musical skill he or she learned. To provide Music with Mrs. Gabel and other enrichments to our every classroom, the PTA spends $360/student each year. To help these wonderful programs continue, please donate at:

Attention 1st Grade Families!

chessYour children are starting their Chess enrichment today, September 25. This program is 100% PTA funded by donations from our PS154 families. In 12 weekly classes, our beloved Mr. Jairo Moreira, an International Chess Master and highly-regarded teacher, will help your children build upon skills introduced last year. Chess programs for children:

  • develop memory and concentration
  • involve decoding, critical thinking, comprehension and analysis skills
  • encourage and reward hard work

This weekend, get out a chessboard at home and see what your first grader learned. To provide Chess and other enrichments to our every classroom, the PTA spends $360/student each year.  To help these wonderful programs continue, please donate at: Fundraising – PS 154 Brooklyn
